ECU checksum on flash: the tool habit, not a desk checkbox
If the tool asks to correct the checksum, that is the tool talking to that ECU family. We do not tick it from here. A dying battery is still not a map problem.

Checksum is the boring sentence after every flash guide, so people treat it like a superstition. It is not. The file is a block of data. The ECU adds it up and decides whether the block looks like something it is allowed to run. Your tool either corrects that sum as it writes, or it expects the file to already carry a valid one. That conversation happens in the bay, on that laptop, with that cable.
A file desk does not remote-correct a checksum on a car we cannot see. We send the tuned binary back the same way the original left: Dropbox, Drive or MEGA. If your tool has a correct-checksum prompt on that family, use the prompt the way the manual says. If it never asks, do not invent a second utility from a forum thread because the first write felt slow.
Wrong checksum looks like a refuse-to-start, a brick scare, or a tool that stops at 97 percent. It also looks like a booster that died at 94 percent. Those two get mixed in the same WhatsApp voice note. Stable power first. Then the prompt. Then you tell us what the tool actually printed, not that the file is corrupt.
Some families want the correction inside the tool. Some want an external calculator. Some slave tools hide it. Write the tool name on the ticket so the engineer is not guessing between Autotuner and a ten-year-old Kess profile. A file written from an Autotuner read does not owe a different protocol a favour on the way back.
Keep the first dump. If the write fails, that original is how you leave the yard with a car that still starts. The original-file service exists for the day the USB stick from 2019 does not. Circuit and motorsport only. A green checksum box is not a street ticket.
